One Small Step for Man, Renee's Big Step Into Blogland!

Okay, so here it is. My first big step into today's technology and social network driven society... my first blog. I know a ton of people do it. And they seem to like it. So why not, right? It seems that the most interesting blogs that I've read have a theme- a main focus- a purpose I suppose. I figured I could never just write about my life (since I don't think it would be all that interesting to other people), but I do share something with a lot of readers, I'm sure. My desire to look good, feel good, and change my body. Now, I'm not going to say "losing weight" like all those other New-Year's-Resolution-happy people who get a new gym membership on January 2nd, go to the gym for a week, and then go right back to their old ways of sitting on the couch every night with their favorite pint of Ben and Jerry's. Oh no no. That's why one of MY new year's resolutions was to lose FAT, not WEIGHT and re-shape my body while building strength and getting healthier.

How am I planning to do it? By getting buff... duh. This blog is really going to be about the different workout routines I'm going to do, combined with my ever improving attempts to eat healthy. Side note- I don't diet. Nor will I EVER diet. Why? Because diets don't work. All those people following the Atkins diet, or the South Beach diet, or the "I just won't eat carbs diet"... have obviously never read an article or book in their life that had some actual merit to it. I know it's confusing and there are tons of books out there by specialists and personal trainers and even, gag, celebrities... but if I've found one common theme among any of them, it's this. You need to friggin' eat. And eat what you like/what you want. Within moderation of course. And, another common theme I've learned, is that you need to eat more than you think if you want to lose weight. So, with that being said, the way I've been attempting to tackle my trials and tribulations of the eating healthy world is by following the Weight Watchers PointsPlus Program. I had followed the original Weight Watchers program back in my senior year of high school when I was at my all time high for weight, and I lost over 20 pounds. To this day, I am still within my healthy weight range, but the program helps you make smarter, healthier choices when it comes to food and your lifestyle. So that's why I'm sticking with it- but this isn't me trying to convince you that it's the ONLY option that works. I'm just saying that for me, with my obsessive-compulsive and perfectionist personality, using the program keeps me focused with a goal in mind. That is the only way I've succeeded in the past, and it is one of the main reasons why I'm starting this blog. To keep me focused. To challenge myself. And above all, to rant and rave to you all about working out which is one of my favorite things to do.

Okay, I've blabbed enough for one blog post I think. Today, I try out the RunKeeper app for the first time as I go for my first run in months. Then, maybe later if I have the time, I'll head out to the gym for some strength training. If I ever finish the mountain of engineering homework I have sitting in front of me, that is...
